Coach Camp

Joe is entering his second year coaching with the Varsity team for Gulf Coast Storm. He served as an Assistant Coach last year and this year takes the helm as Head Coach. His prior coaching experience includes serving two years as the Head Coach of the Great Bridge High School Varsity team in Chesapeake VA. In this role he coached the team to a first ever conference tournament appearance and developed four All-Conference players. He also has three years of experience coaching soccer.

Joe is a former lacrosse player that finished his playing career as a midfielder for East Carolina University’s men’s club team. He is a certified US Lacrosse Coach and Positive Coaching Alliance Double Goal Coach. He has also completed the National Federation of State High School Associations Concussions in Sports Certificate.

In his professional life, Joe is a Coast Guard Commander and his daughter Emma is a senior at Clear Falls High School.

5/6 HEAD COACH - Christian Wilson
Christian Wilson is in his second year of coaching with the GCGLA.  His oldest daughter has played two years for the Storm and welcomes his middle daughter to the club this year.  He is a licensed US Lacrosse youth coach.  Prior to moving to Texas, he was a licensed youth soccer coach with the Cherry Hill Soccer Club for four years at both the recreational and travel levels.  Christian is currently serving on active duty as a Chief Warrant Officer in the United States Coast Guard.  He and his wonderful wife, Jennifer, have three daughters.  He recently celebrated 21 years of active duty.

Christian Wilson first picked up a lacrosse stick in the sixth grade.  His family had recently moved to Northern Virginia where lacrosse was already a popular sport in the Washington D.C. Metro area.  He began playing for a small start-up club, Lake Ridge Youth Lacrosse, in its first year as an organization.  He went on to play through middle school and on into high school.  His freshman year he played on both the Junior Varsity and Varsity teams as a starting defenseman for Woodbridge Senior High School.  He was twice named to the Jefferson Cup All-Star Team during consecutive trips to the Virginia State high school tournament.  As a team captain, he helped lead the Vikings to the State title his senior year in 1996.  He went on to attend George Mason University prior to enlisting in the United States Coast Guard.

Coaching Philosophy:
Foster a love for the sport of lacrosse.
Teach teamwork, leadership, and sportsmanship.
Develop and reinforce the foundation of fundamental skills essential to the success of the player.
Introduce advanced skills and tactics instrumental at upper level play.
Have fun.
